Subject: Great segues and guest integration
This show's venue was the classical music hall at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, so everyone was in theater seats a little far back from the band. That sort of inhibited people from dancing at the beginning, which I think is reflected in the jazzy, relaxed vibe of the first set. On later listen, this performance is even better than I remembered, with the Slip sit in benefitting many of the selections.

The opener, Cherokee Shuffle, is a bluegrass number that was only played a handful of times. That's What Love Will Do For You sneaks gracefully into a short spacy jam that picks up pace and segues seamlessly into Mauna Bowa- simply beautiful. Blue Bossa is tight as a drum and goes out there much further than you would expect and goes smoothly into a short On the Road. In the days before Blackberry Blossom evolved into a techo-jam tune, the jam was really different.

The second set is more electric, starting with a bass-driven CAYA. Then there's Land's End with the strange "Thank You jam" which I think is directed at The Slip, who had played a bunch of shows with them. The Chicken is fun-filled and playful and VooDoo Chile and Round the Wheel are great. Just another typically great evening of an excellent band during their peak touring years.
